We hope you all had a restful and rewarding winter break! Whether you’ve been back to the grind for a few weeks or are just starting your semester today, it’s the perfect time to refresh your memory about our librarian liaison program.

The Hirsh Library Liaison Program provides a “point person” for each of the academic programs and clinical departments on the Tufts’ health sciences campus.

What can a librarian liaison do for you? For starters, your librarian liaison can help you:

  • identify resources for your particular topic, especially resources beyond article databases
  • create effective and efficient search strategies for databases like PubMed and Web of Science
  • discern what tool is right for you to help manage your citations (i.e., EndNote, Zotero, Mendeley) and providing instructions to get you started
  • track down statistical data for research projects and help you manage your own data

Visit our Liaison Program page to find out who the librarian liaison is for your program and get in touch with them!

Looking for additional EBD learning opportunities to help you with your PICO assignment or your BaSiCSsss presentation? Want to brush up on your techniques? Have we got the Research Guide for you!

This past summer, our Dental Librarian put a team together to enrich the Evidence-Based Dentistry Research Guide. The Guide, which includes tutorials  you can watch, provides an outline of the process and includes a brand new Evidence Pyramid!

Still have questions? Ask us! Use one of the methods below to contact a librarian, schedule a consultation or stop by the desk.

For those working on BaSiCSsss presentations, don’t forget to reach out to your group librarian.

Please join us in welcoming our newest Research and Instruction Librarian, Christina Heinrich! Christina just moved to Boston from Chicago and has previously worked at the National Network of Libraries of Medicine. She is also a recent graduate of the University of Illinois School of Information. Christina will be the primary outreach liaison to the pre-clinical medical students.  Please say hello if you see her around the library!

Amanda

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Amanda Nevius, our new Research & Instruction librarian! Amanda joins us from just about a mile down the road–she was previously an Education and Information Services Librarian at the Boston University Medical Campus. When she’s not at work, she enjoys running, mountain biking, and camping, as well as cooking and crafting. She also writes fiction and runs a book blog!

Amanda is excited to be joining the staff here at Hirsh, where she’ll be the primary outreach liaison to the Dental school. If you see her around the library, be sure to say hello!

It’s a new academic year here at Tufts’ Health Sciences Campus and the HHSL is piloting a new service model. You may have noticed that early in the mornings or late in the afternoons we only have one person on the service desk. Or perhaps you’ve noticed a lack of familiar librarian faces on the 4th floor.

Never fear! The HHSL librarians are alive and well and ready to serve you still!

This year we are piloting a service model where the librarians are largely “on call” – much like our resident and doctor patrons. If you need help from a librarian, please come to the 4th floor desk and the librarian on call will be happy to assist you. (It is not an inconvenience when a patron asks for help – it’s our job and we love to do it!)

You can also email, call, or chat with a librarian if you can’t come see us in the library.
