The Henry J. Leir Institute for Migration and Human Security at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy is a hub for interdisciplinary research and engagement at the intersection of migration, human security, and policy innovation. We bring together scholars, practitioners, and students to explore the drivers of displacement, the impacts of migration, and the development of rights-based, effective policy responses. Through rigorous research, experiential learning opportunities, and strategic partnerships, the Leir Institute works to shape data driven approaches to global migration and human security challenges.
Journeys Project examines migrant stories to illuminate the costs and strategies involved in their journeys as well as the economic approaches they use when putting down roots in new surroundings.
Leadership in Migration Initiative aims to establish a comprehensive understanding of migration leadership through global best practices and real-world experiences.
Refugees in Towns promotes understanding of the migrant/refugee integration experience by drawing on the knowledge and perspectives of refugees as well as local hosts.
Securitization without Security investigates how the securitization of migration by the United States and Europe is reshaping the global order at both state and non-state levels.
