Job Summary:
The Frederick Gunn School is seeking a full-time English teacher passionate about literature
and who enjoys working with high school students. Applicants should embrace the values of
a boarding school, bring energy to the classroom, and possess a strong interest in teaching
close reading, composition, and analytical thinking. In addition, this role entails
responsibilities as a coach, house parent, and student advisor.

Key Responsibilities:
● Teach four English courses, covering diverse literary texts (fiction and non-fiction) and
providing instruction in expository, critical, and creative writing.
● Employ varied pedagogical approaches to accommodate student-focused
classrooms.
● Implement the school’s educational philosophy and English department goals.
● Create a conducive classroom environment suited to students’ maturity and interests.
● Prepare course materials (syllabi, quizzes, assignments, rubrics).
● Use HighlanderNation (learning management system) to post course material and
track grades.
● Offer extra help and review sessions to support students’ academic and personal
growth.
● Regularly assess student progress and provide written reports.
● Eager to work collaboratively with colleagues within and outside the English
department.

Job Details
The position is available for the 25/26 school year, possibly opening as early as
the spring of 2025. Offer of employment will be contingent upon a successful
background check.


Qualifications

Ideal candidates are expected to have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in English; teaching experience is preferred.

Mentor with Big Brother Big Sister and Quincy High School

Quincy Public Schools is launching a new partnership with Big Brother/ Big Sisters and are looking for mentors! The Big Futures is a mentoring program designed to provide high school students with personalized support and guidance as they navigate their education and prepare for life beyond graduation.   • Academic Mentoring Seminar (AMS) Instructor, MITES Saturdays
    • Part-time, In-person
    • 10-12 hours per week, $30/hour
    • Timeline: Fall: Sep-Dec; Spring: Feb-May (8 Saturdays and occasional evening virtual meetings)
    • The MITES Saturdays Academic Mentoring Seminar (AMS) Instructor plays a critical role in working towards the program’s goal of developing a cohort of “thinking minds” equipped to be successful in technical fields and at the country’s top colleges and universities. In collaboration with other Academic Mentoring Seminar Instructors, the AMS Instructor is responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive curriculum focused on leadership, character education, social-emotional skill building, high academic achievement, college and career access, and community/social action.
