Melissa Colón is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Bunker Hill Community College, where she also serves as Faculty co-Fellow for the Latinx Student Success Initiative (LSSI). Her research, teaching, and consultancies ask us to consider schooling as a developmental context for Black and Latinx youth, and in particular what the educational lives of youth can teach us about how race and gender shape ideologies, social organizations, policies, and programs. Melissa has a BA in Education and History from Boston College, a Master’s in Public Policy, and a Doctorate in Child Studies and Human Development, both from Tufts University. Her work in this field began as a youth organizer and public school teacher. Get in touch with Melissa here!
