About the 2022 Community Evaluator Cohort Projects

Between the summer of 2022 and the summer of 2023, a team of Community Evaluators carried out four evaluation projects related to the COVID-19 pandemic response. These projects were funded by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Initiative to Address COVID-19 Health Disparities Award.

Below is some context on each project, and an example of a project deliverable.

Experiences of Frontline Workers Project

The goal of this project is to learn more about the experiences of two sub-groups of frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic: (1) restaurant workers; and (2) childcare workers. The evaluation team used interviews and focus groups to talk with restaurant and childcare workers about their experiences.

COVID-19 Vaccination Among Young Children (0–5)

The goal of this project is to learn from parents/caregivers with children under 5 about how they feel about the COVID-19 vaccine, how they make decisions about the vaccine for their children, and what information or supports would help (or have helped) them make their decisions. The evaluation team used focus groups to learn about parent/caregivers’ attitudes toward the COVID-19 vaccine.

COVID-19 Vaccination During Pregnancy

The goals of this project are to hear from pregnant people in some of the groups who have the lowest COVID-19 vaccination rates about their experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, and their attitudes and beliefs about COVID-19 vaccination. The evaluation team used interviews and a survey to learn about pregnant people’s experiences during the pandemic and attitudes toward the COVID-19 vaccine.

Evaluation of the Lawrence Telehealth Kiosk

The goal of this project is to understand if the Lawrence Telehealth Kiosk (a service developed to help families access medical and social services virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic) is a useful resource for community members. The evaluation team used a survey to learn about perspectives of the Telehealth Kiosk.
