Seeking Middle and High School Teachers
SEEDS is an access organization which provides highly-motivated, low-income students with pathways to independent high school and/or college. There are three levels: Young Scholars, Scholars, and College Scholars.
This is the first summer since 2019 that we are able to return to our fully in-person format. Students and teachers will be at the Kent School in Kent, CT for the summer, and if you haven’t visited Litchfield County before, it is absolutely beautiful!
We have openings for teachers in the Summer Challenge and Capstone Programs, serving rising 8th and 9th grade students. Classes will begin on Monday 27 June. Teachers will be provided with supplies, resources, and a complete curriculum. Room and board is included for all faculty, and you’ll have access to the whole campus including recreational spaces (tennis courts, gym, etc.).
If you are interested in teaching high school or middle school, strengthening your teaching skills (middle schoolers keep you on your toes!), or working with an amazing non-profit, let me know! Science Club for Girls: Program Manager
Science Club for Girls (SCFG), a Cambridge-based non-profit established in 1994, seeks dynamic, resourceful and collaborative individuals with experience with after school teaching and program management to join our program team. SCFG builds self confidence, excitement and literacy in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) for girls and gender expansive youth in grades K-12, particularly from communities underrepresented in STEM. We do this by providing free, experiential and leadership programs in STEM in Greater Boston and Cambridge. This is made possible through the support of our many mentor-scientists and volunteers. Our staff is passionate, committed and entrepreneurial.
The Program Manager will join our team and manage K-8th grade Science Clubs and high school-aged Junior Mentors at multiple school- and community center-based sites in Boston, Cambridge and Somerville and virtually via Zoom. Programming occurs after school on weekdays, approximately 2:30-5:30pm, and on Saturday mornings, approximately 9:30am-12:30pm for eight weeks each semester. Program Managers will also assist with the preparation of activities and programming forSCFGLive!, our
TV show that is broadcast live on Facebook, YouTube, and other partners and on demand via Comcast. Additionally, Program Managers will be responsible for running spring break and summer vacation programming. Duties take place at SCFG offices, out in the community and remotely. This is a full-time position. The Program Manager reports to the Program Director.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
● Site Management
○ Provide on-site implementation of Science Club programs in person and/or virtually via
Zoom each semester during weekday afternoons and some Saturday mornings
○ Support curriculum development and materials sourcing for semester-based programs
and spring break and summer programming
○ Support program evaluation with participants and mentors in coordination with Program
Recruitment Manager and Development Team
○ Recruit program participants; coordinate with site staff, parent liaisons, parents; conduct
outreach in greater community through events and partnerships
○ Ensure quality of programming through weekly in-person, telephone, Zoom or email
debriefs of meetings and other support for mentors and volunteers
○ Oversee classroom and behavior management in programs; work with Program Director
and other staff to train volunteers to implement consistent strategy for participants across
sites
○ Collect volunteer and participant attendance data; track participant information
○ Plan and implement end-of-semester event celebrating the semester and sharing with
parents, other adults and friends
○ Work with Program Team to organize, acquire and maintain all supplies and materials for
each club, making sure supplies are received by Zoom participants or to in-person
program sites
○ Collect and analyze programmatic and organizational data with custom relationship
management software, such as Salesforce● People Management
○ Train and supervise volunteers and mentors; provide on-site orientation and ongoing
support
○ Train and manage Junior Mentors
○ Supervise interns or work-study students as necessary
○ Manage communications with parents and families; distribute curriculum overview and
weekly emails
○ Manage communications with partners; attend appropriate school staff meetings and
ensure open communication channels
QUALIFICATIONS
● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

TEACHER
JOB DESCRIPTION
Reports to: Principal, Assistant Principal and Department Head
Job Goal: To instruct students in accordance with the educational philosophy, course objectives, and curriculum of the District.
To provide maximum learning opportunities for students in accordance with program objectives and each student’s abilities, interests, and needs.
To continuously develop his/her professional knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors in order to improve the educational opportunities of his/her students.
Responsibilities:
A. Instruction
1. Instructs students in accordance with the District’s philosophy of education, policies, and curriculum.
2. Directs the teaching/learning process toward the achievement of program goals, establishes specific objectives for all lessons, and communicates these objectives to students.
3. Is prepared to instruct students assigned and has written documentation (e.g., plan book) of preparation.
4. Diagnoses the learning needs of students in terms of the curriculum objectives on a continuous basis and seeks the assistance of District specialists as required.
5. Employs a variety of instructional techniques, materials, and instructional media, consistent with the needs, interests, and abilities of the students and the objectives of the curriculum.
6. Assesses the progress of students in terms of curriculum objectives on a continuous basis and provides progress reports as required.
7. Sets a positive example for students and community by demonstrating respect and concern for students and an awareness of community values.
B. Classroom Management
1. Manages and fully utilizes class time for instructional purposes.
2. Establishes and maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning and teaching.
3. Assists the administration in implementing policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
4. Promotes appropriate student behavior and attends to students misbehavior when it occurs in the teachers presence or whenever it is brought to the teachers attention (e.g., hallways, cafeteria, washrooms, and grounds).
5. Takes reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
C. Organization
1. Conducts school-related activities in conformity with School Committee policies and administrative regulations.
2. Cooperates with administrators and others in developing and supporting school activities and maintaining an atmosphere conducive to learning and teaching.
3. Establishes and maintains productive working relationships with colleagues and supervisors.
4. Maintains accurate student records as required by law, School Committee policy and administrative regulations.
5. Takes and records attendance accurately in classes and/or homeroom, notes attendance patterns and reports unusual and/or excessive absenteeism to supervisory personnel and parents.
6. Conducts routine assignments with accuracy, promptness and efficiency.
7. Maintains an accurate inventory of materials and supplies used in carrying out assignments.
8. Performs all other duties as required by the school administration.
D. Parent/Community Relationship
1. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes.
2. Establishes and maintains communication (oral and written) with students and their parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
3. Solicits appropriately the help of parent(s) as required in the education of their children.
4. Maintains good humor, enthusiasm, initiative, and integrity with students and parents and has a positive working relationship with them.
E. Curriculum Development
1. Assists in the development of curriculum and methods of course/students evaluation in cooperation with department colleagues and
the administration.
F. Professional Development
1. Incorporates constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement in performance made by supervisors
2. Continuously self evaluates professional effectiveness in areas of curriculum classroom performance, and teacher-student, staff and community relationship in order to maintain and/or improve professional competence.
3. Keeps abreast of new developments in his/her instructional discipline(s) and successful educational. Practices and programs in order to improve the quality of the educational experiences of his/her students.
Qualifications:
· Massachusetts Certification.
· Demonstrated ability to instruct secondary school students and to maintain purpose and order in the classroom and all other areas of the school.
· Commitment to continuously improve professional competence.
· Demonstrated ability to design and deliver instruction to facilitate learning consistent with the philosophy, goals, curriculum and policies as established by the School Committee and the needs and interests of the students.
Terms of Employment: Salary, benefits, and work year established by agreement between the Bourne School Committee and the Bourne Education Association.
Evaluation: Performance shall be evaluated by the Principal and/or his/her designees. Position Type: Full-time
