What does it mean to learn from food waste instead of just about it? This year’s Tufts Food Systems Symposium will take a fresh look at a familiar problem, connecting “downstream” effects with “upstream” causes and bringing together people and groups working to make real change in the food system and beyond.
Join us for conversation with campus and community partners, hands-on activities for learning and reflecting, table discussions over good food, and keynote remarks by Guy Schaffer, author of Composting Utopia: Experimental Infrastructures for Organics Recycling in New York City. We will work toward ideas and practices of interacting with “waste” in radically regenerative ways, stepping back from systems that rely on wastefulness and closing loops in our ecological and social relationships.
The symposium and series are being produced by the Spring 2024 “Practicing in Food Systems” class (ENV190/ANTH159).
