Friedman School courses and Tisch College fellowships

As we look ahead to the new year (and summer! because winter, lalalalalala), there are some opportunities for Tufts undergrads interested in food studies at both the Friedman School of Nutrition Science & Policy and Tisch College of Civic Life.

We’ve added some additional Friedman school info to the spring’s list of courses that will count toward the food minor or the major track of the ENVS major. Check them out here!

And Tisch just dropped its list of summer fellowship opportunities, which include a number of really great food- and ag-related sites and projects. Here’s the top-line version, with links to more info:

  • Project GROWS (Staunton, VA) – help lead outdoor, farm-based Youth Leaders in Agriculture jobs program
  • Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and Agriculture (Alexandria, VA) – Farm Camp Counselor
  • Groundwork Somerville (yes, Somerville MA) – Green Team Leader for high school age students in summer urban farming program – the supervisor is a Tufts B.A. and Friedman School alum who was a Tisch Summer Fellow at Project GROWS, who wrote about that experience here
  • Haley House (Boston) – combination of direct service work in soup kitchen/food pantry/Take Back the Kitchen classes (an awesome set of programs with a strong equity focus), program support, and/or communications, depending on the fellow’s skills and interests
  • LEAF (Local Enterprise Assistance Fund, Boston) – research, writing, website work – LEAF does amazing work supporting food co-ops and independent food businesses
  • Office of Boston City Councilor Gabriela (Gigi) Coletta – Conducting research on issues relating to community health including a city-wide food recovery program and effective community health care for immigrant communities and women
  • Sociedad Latina (Boston) – youth programming with lots of interest in somebody who is strong with food justice and / or health education

It’s possible there may be additional sites added as well. Sign up for the Tisch College newsletter to get all the latest scoops.
