Summer Internships Working with Youth

Groundwork Somerville is seeking summer interns for several positions. These positions are all unpaid, but Groundwork Somerville will happily accommodate any student who secures an outside source of funding for the internship. Applications for all positions are due this Friday, March 31st.

Groundwork Somerville is a 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is “to bring about the sustained regeneration, improvement and management of the physical environment through the development of community-based partnerships which empower people, businesses and organizations to promote environmental, economic and social well-being.” The organization involves multiple stakeholders from the community to create jobs, food, green space, and leadership opportunities, through development of health and environment focused curriculum, job-training programs, and urban and school gardens.

Open positions include two Green Team Crew Leaders, Green Team Farmers Market Leader, two Green Team Site Leaders, Green Team Bike Leader, Outreach, Social Media, and Events Intern, and Urban Trail and Forest Intern. Find full position descriptions here.

Village Gardens (Portland, OR) is looking to hire summer interns for two paid positions. Both positions will work for their youth employment program, Food Works, as a Summer Program Leader, and a Farm Assistant. Find full position descriptions here.

Village Gardens’ mission is to build “neighborhood economic and food resilience through leadership development, employment opportunities and a community-based food system model.” The organization partners with leaders in the community to “create additional opportunities for advancing equity in a community disproportionately impacted by poverty and hunger.”

Foodworks is a program under Village Gardens that provides leadership training to youth, allowing them to learn about business, organic agriculture, and develop important work skills all by planning, growing, selling and donating organic produce from their Sauvie Island farm.

The deadline to apply for both of these positions is this Friday, March 31st. There is also one full time position listed on their website that is open until filled.
