My name is Em Plotkin and I am the School Gardens Manager at Groundwork Somerville, an organization dedicated to promoting environmental justice, racial/health equity, and youth empowerment in Somerville. We have an exciting job opportunity for anyone passionate about environmental education this coming fall and spring!

We are looking to hire a passionate educator to lead afterschool programming in Somerville Public Schools through Community Schools. The position will cover Fall programming from September-December, with the opportunity to stay on for Spring programming April-June. The Part-Time Afterschool Educator will have the opportunity to teach recurring youth groups each week, developing their skills and knowledge in the garden while incorporating a garden-based curriculum that follows the seasons, and of course having fun along the way. Outside of sessions, the Part-Time Afterschool Educator is expected to coordinate with me to perform basic garden maintenance on each of their assigned school sites and organize materials and lessons. Part-time STEM teaching position with MITES (MIT)

MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering, and Science (MITES), one of the nation’s leading pre-college STEM programs for underrepresented students, is currently hiring for the following temporary positions for the Fall semester.

This is the perfect opportunity for graduate students who are seeking part-time teaching positions on Saturdays that help contribute to equity and diversity in STEM. We’re currently seeking out applicants for:

  • Academic Mentoring Seminar (AMS) Instructor, MITES Saturdays
    • Part-time, In-person
    • 10-12 hours per week, $30/hour
    • Timeline: Fall: Sep-Dec; Spring: Feb-May (8 Saturdays and occasional evening virtual meetings)
    • The MITES Saturdays Academic Mentoring Seminar (AMS) Instructor plays a critical role in working towards the program’s goal of developing a cohort of “thinking minds” equipped to be successful in technical fields and at the country’s top colleges and universities. In collaboration with other Academic Mentoring Seminar Instructors, the AMS Instructor is responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive curriculum focused on leadership, character education, social-emotional skill building, high academic achievement, college and career access, and community/social action. Throughout the program, Instructors are expected to assess student performance/academic needs and provide resources to help promote student success. At the end of the program, Instructors will document course materials and write narrative evaluations of each student. Long-term Physics Substitute (Danvers, MA)

St. John’s seeks a long-term, high school substitute physics teacher to cover a family leave from September 1, 2024 to January 24, 2025. Science faculty members in the High School at St. John’s teach five sections and may be assigned an additional supervisory duty. Classes meet five times within a seven-day rotating schedule.
