Freight Farms field trip on Dec 2

Join a group of Tufts Environmental Studies students for a visit to a South Boston urban farm that’s using container growing systems by Freight Farms. The trip will be on Friday, Dec 2 from 12:30 to 2:30, and anyone interested should RSVP by Wed, Nov 30. Here’s the Facebook page for the event.

Freight Farms is a Boston-based startup that uses shipping containers to house hydroponic vertical farming systems. Massachusetts-grown greens in February? You bet!

There’s been quite a bit of controversy lately over whether hydroponic food can be called “organic,” so this will be a good opportunity to think about some of the questions emerging around the edges of new, high-tech solutions to food systems problems.
