The Medford Farmers Market is looking to hire a Market Manager and Assistant Market Manager for the summer of 2017. The descriptions are detailed below. 

About the Market: Runs from Thursday, June 8 to Thursday, October 12, 2017, from 3:00-7:00 PM at the Condon Shell at 2501 Mystic Valley Pkwy. 

Summer Farmers Market Manager: This position runs from Mid May – Mid October 2017, with a commitment of 15-18 hrs/wk and compensation of $15/hr. The application is due this Thursday, April 20th.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Assist with pre-season planning and advertising of market
  • Manage operations of the market each Thursday
  • Educate, assist, and respond to questions from vendors and shoppers at the market
  • Assist with “Produce in a SNAP” senior share distribution program on Tuesdays
  • Develop and maintains good working relationships with vendors, consumers, community members, and Board members, communicating regularly with vendors and Board
  • Enforce market rules
  • Set up Market infrastructure weekly (manager table, decorations, banners, etc)
  • Monitor and ensure safety and cleanliness of the site 

Qualifications: “The ideal candidate will have an interest in local agriculture, food, community, and/or local economies. S/he must be reliable, friendly, outgoing, self-motivated, flexible and able to problem solve quickly.  Previous experience with farmersʼ markets, marketing, outreach, and/or event planning and management a plus.” Also must be able to work outdoors and safely lift and carry 40 lbs. 

Summer Farmers Market Assistant Manager: This position runs from the End of May – Mid October 2017, with a commitment of 6 hrs/wk and compensation of $11/hr. The application is due Monday, May 1st.

Responsibilities include assisting the market manager with weekly operation of the farmers market, including many of the responsibilities listed in the description above

Qualifications: “the ideal candidate will be reliable, friendly, outgoing, self-motivated, flexible and able to problem solve quickly.  Previous customer service experience and an interest in local agriculture is preferred.”
