The Medford Farmers Market is looking to fill two volunteer internship positions for this summer: The “Produce in a SNAP for Seniors” internship and the “Nutrition/Kids Activity” internship. To apply for either position, send a resume to medfordfarmersmarket@gmail.com by TODAY.

The Produce in a SNAP for Seniors position runs from July to October, on Tuesday afternoons. Intern will be responsible for helping to lead cooking demonstrations for seniors using “local, seasonal, and affordable ingredients.” Tasks will include set-up, clean-up, and planning of demos. Individuals with public health, nutrition, or culinary experience are preferred.

The Nutrition/Kids Activity position runs from June 8 – October 12, on Thursdays from 2:45-7:15. This internship may be split between two people, or be filled by one person alone. Responsibilities will include planning and executing activities for target audiences (children, families, and seniors) that promote healthy eating, and documenting Medford Farmers Market activities. Experience with nutrition, public health, or dietetics is required; current students in these fields are welcome to apply. This position could be considered for academic credit.

The Medford Community Gardens Commission and the Medford Housing Authority are looking to hire an intern at the Willis Avenue Community Children’s Center Garden for the summer. The intern will work approximately 5 hours per week, for 12 weeks (roughly from May to September). Compensation is $10/hr. The intern will oversee operations at the garden and help create educational activities for the Center’s after school program and summer day camp. Other responsibilities include assisting with upkeep of the garden and teaching the children the basics of organic gardening. Experience gardening and working with school-age children are required. All necessary tools and supplies will be provided. Applicants should send their resume to Lisa “Riz” Risley, Treasurer, Friend of Medford Community Gardens, 93 Cedar Road North, Medford, MA 02155.
