New Jobs and Internships Addressing Food Insecurity

Two Boston-based organizations targeting food insecurity are looking to fill several positions.

Boston Area Gleaners is seeking an Education and Outreach Coordinator. Boston Area Gleaners is a 501(c)(3) ​nonprofit dedicated to rescuing surplus ​local farm crops for people in need in Eastern Massachusetts. Since 2004, they have gleaned and donated over 1 million pounds of high-quality produce. The Education and Outreach Coordinator will be charged with working throughout the community to engage people in the organization’s work and mission. Education and outreach efforts will include public speaking, presentations, and group organizing, as well as promoting their work to local businesses, educational institutions, and communities of faith.This is a permanent, part-time position with flexible hours. The proposed start date is May 1st, so interested students should reach out soon. Project Bread is looking to find 2-3 Outreach Interns for their Healthy Incentives Program (HIP). Project Bread is an anti-hunger organization committed to providing people of all ages, cultures and walks of life with sustainable, reliable access to nutritious food through the implementation of community-based meal programs, early childhood and school nutrition initiatives, and improved access to farm-to-table resources. HIP is implemented in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance and strives to increase affordability of nutritious food by 100% matching of SNAP funds spent on fruits and vegetables at farm stands, farmers markets, mobile markets, and CSA programs. Ideally interns would start in May, but start date and hours are negotiable. The position is unpaid, but eligible for educational credit.. More information here.
