StAAR Center Graduate Academic Mentor

The StAAR Center is beginning its search for new Graduate Academic Mentors for the 2023-2024 school year! Academic Mentors are master’s or PhD students who meet one-on-one with students to help them develop academic skills such as time management, study strategies, note-taking skills, and more! We are looking for graduate students who are enthusiastic and passionate about helping others to join our team.
We are looking to hire a diverse team representing a wide variety of academic disciplines and backgrounds. Your support of our program is appreciated!

Summer Nanny/Babysitter (West Medford/Lexington)
Looking for a summer babysitter to take care of 3 children, ages 8, 6, and 4.
The position would be Monday – Thursday, 8:30am – 2pm. It would begin June 26 until August 25, 2023.
Job duties would be taking the children to their swim lessons and swim team practice at Winchester Boat Club and general oversight of their care and safety. In general, you will be at the Winchester Boat Club for most days from around 9am-1pm, supervising the children.
If not at the boat club, job duties will include entertaining the children, going for walks/bike rides and excursions (zoo, parks, museum) as the weeks allow. The children (2 boys and a girl) are all very independent and know their schedule. They are fun, silly, outgoing and loving. One parent works from home and will be at the house and will come and go, and will be available to you as needed. There is a super friendly dog (golden/labradoodle) in the home.
Required hours: Monday – Thursday, 8:30-2pm
Location: West Medford/Lexington June 26, 2023 – August 25, 2023
Requirements: non smoker, has license, own car preferred
Wage: $25/hour

Position Summary
The Fessenden School seeks a Kindergarten Teacher for a joyful class of 16 boys. This position will involve the teaching of math, social studies, literacy and social competency. Skills and experience as a facilitator of children’s social and emotional development are preferred. Along with these arenas, this person will also assist in the teaching and integration of Spanish, science, library curriculum and the arts. An integral part of this role is partnering with and complementing the other co-teacher in order to provide the students with a cohesive approach to all aspects of their kindergarten experience.
Essential Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Teach and stay current with curriculum for math, social studies, literacy, and 21st century learning
- Incorporate project based learning, educational technology, differentiated learning and cultural competency in lessons
- Partner with other Kindergarten teachers to coordinate consistency in curriculum and communication within grade level
- Communicate with parents and caregivers on a regular basis
- Exemplify the School’s mission and community principles, including honesty, respect and compassion
- Participate in and help facilitate all division and grade level activities
- Collaborate with learning resources department to provide a coordinated approach for students with learning differences
- Perform duties such as supervising recess, lunch and dismissal
- Maintain all documentation connected with the curriculum and students
- Review potential student applicants throughout the year
- Attend faculty meetings; typically on Mondays from 3:00pm to 4:15pm
- Attend professional development meetings; typically during school year there are three 8:30am to 4:00pm and three 3:00pm to 5:00pm
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance
- Maintain current CPR/AED & first aid certification and child abuse prevention training
- Other duties as assigned

- Orientation: August 21, 2023- August 22, 2023
- School Year: August 28, 2023-June 11, 2024
- Academic Day: 7:30 am – 3:00pm
- Monday Faculty Meetings: 3:00-4:00, 3:15-5:00
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor degree
- Experience in instructing children in academic programs
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage a classroom
- Ability to perform critical thinking, organization, prioritization, and problem solving with minimal supervision
- Ability to serve in a diverse community of colleagues, students, and parents
- Enthusiasm and communication skills to engage boys and build meaningful relationships
