Position Summary

The Fessenden School’s Extended Day Program (EDP) seeks a part-time After School Teacher to work Monday to Friday from 2:15pm to 4:30pm during the school year. The After School Teacher is responsible for leading students in a safe and engaging after school experience and reports directly to the Extended Day Program Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate with other teachers to plan and deliver focused activities for students in Grades 1-4, in areas such as art, STEM, sports and active games, imaginative play, and other fun, age-appropriate topics
  • Directly supervise and lead a group of students in these activities, ensuring emotional and physical safety for the duration of the activity
  • Participate in daily meetings at 2:15 with EDP Director and other teachers to plan, collaborate, and discuss topics around EDP program
  • Prepare for daily instruction, including setting up space, gathering materials, and communicating with the EDP Director and other teachers about any needs.
  • Communicate with EDP Director and other teachers in tracking students during sign-in, activities, and dismissal
  • Model appropriate, positive behavior for students and respond appropriately to challenging student behaviors
  • Perform other duties as required

  • School Year
  • Monday to Friday 2:15 pm to 4:30 pm

Minimum Qualifications 

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Successful criminal background check
  • Prior experience in a related position working with children

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Current CPR/AED & first aid certification (certification will be provided if needed)
  • Enthusiasm for working with students in grades Pre-K through 4.
  • Creativity to plan engaging activities
  • Flexibility to adapt plans and lessons to meet time, material, and spatial constraints of EDP
  • Classroom management skills to lead a group of children

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Currently serving eight scholars (two Seniors, two Juniors, two Sophomores and two Freshmen), Winchester ABC seeks an Academic Coordinator to provide academic guidance, coaching, and mentoring. The Academic Coordinator should be academically successful and familiar with the demands and performance levels required to succeed in a rigorous, challenging high school. The Academic Coordinator would help guide the Scholars on organization of academic materials and assignments as well as study skills and other academic issues. We are looking for someone kind, upbeat, and interested in working with teens.

The Academic Coordinator will be at the ABC House (located in Winchester) and actively engaging with scholars for dinner and study hall with the scholars for at least three of the days Monday – Thursday, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, and potentially one Saturday a month.

StAAR Center Graduate Academic Mentor Hiring

The StAAR Center is beginning its search for new Graduate Academic Mentors for the 2023-2024 school year! Academic Mentors are master’s or PhD students who meet one-on-one with students to help them develop academic skills such as time management, study strategies, note-taking skills, and more! We are looking for graduate students who are enthusiastic and passionate about helping others to join our team.

Position Summary

The Fessenden School seeks a Kindergarten Teacher for a joyful class of 16 boys. This position will involve the teaching of math, social studies, literacy and social competency. Skills and experience as a facilitator of children’s social and emotional development are preferred. Along with these arenas, this person will also assist in the teaching and integration of Spanish, science, library curriculum and the arts. An integral part of this role is partnering with and complementing the other co-teacher in order to provide the students with a cohesive approach to all aspects of their kindergarten experience. 

Essential Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Teach and stay current with curriculum for math, social studies, literacy, and 21st century learning
  • Incorporate project based learning, educational technology, differentiated learning and cultural competency in lessons
  • Partner with other Kindergarten teachers to coordinate consistency in curriculum and communication within grade level
  • Communicate with parents and caregivers on a regular basis
  • Exemplify the School’s mission and community principles, including honesty, respect and compassion 
  • Participate in and help facilitate all division and grade level activities
  • Collaborate with learning resources department to provide a coordinated approach for students with learning differences
  • Perform duties such as supervising recess, lunch and dismissal
  • Maintain all documentation connected with the curriculum and students
  • Review potential student applicants throughout the year
  • Attend faculty meetings; typically on Mondays from 3:00pm to 4:15pm
  • Attend professional development meetings; typically during school year there are three 8:30am to 4:00pm and three 3:00pm to 5:00pm
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance
  • Maintain current CPR/AED & first aid certification and child abuse prevention training
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor degree
  • Experience in instructing children in academic programs
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage a classroom
  • Ability to perform critical thinking, organization, prioritization, and problem solving with minimal supervision
  • Ability to serve in a diverse community of colleagues, students, and parents
  • Enthusiasm and communication skills to engage boys and build meaningful relationships

Girlstart seeking part-time program leaders

Girlstart, a non-profit org committed to empowering girls in STEM, is hiring part-time program leaders for this spring semester. This is a PAID opportunity to work with students and lead fun, hands-on STEM lessons at nearby elementary after-school programs.  

  • The commitment is 5 hours per week: about 1.5 hour after school from about 3:00-4:30 pm one day per week at a nearby elementary school, plus your planning and travel time.
