For our friends in Japan

I want to devote a minute to Japan.  Fletcher has many Japanese students and alumni, and — most relevant for the Admissions Blog — there are many applicants currently in Japan (whether or not that’s where they originated) and from Japan (even if they are living elsewhere in the world).  The Admissions staff and all of Tufts University are shocked by the devastation caused by the earthquake and tsunami.  We hope that all Japanese members of the Fletcher family, including applicants, are safe, and we send our wishes and hopes for the country’s rapid recovery.

I’ll post a regular update on where the admissions process stands in a couple of hours.

Thank you very much for your post, Jessica–it is a terrible time that Japan is going through, and it means a lot that Fletcher has the affected families here in its thoughts. The compassion voiced by Americans and others around the world, and the supplies and human resources that have been extended to the relief effort by foreign governments, are a ray of light in a very dark time.

Thank you, Tomo. I don’t remember which part of Japan you’re from, but I hope you’re currently far from the danger. And Fletcher is both trying to find words to express how we feel, while also taking action. Students have been sharing information about how to make a contribution to disaster relief — whether it is through money or crisis mapping. Best of luck to you and your family and friends.

Thank you Jessica for your kind words, I am heartened by many messages that Fletcher has been sending out through the website, facebook, etc. Although many things look still uncertain here in Japan, I hope we can overcome this situation soon.
