Convocation 2021
At some point I promise I’ll stop harping on the thrill of Fletcher returning to life in-person, but as each major academic year milestone comes around it’s hard not to be struck by how nice it is for things to seem kind of normal again. That’s certainly the case for Friday’s Convocation ceremonies, one of the few events each year that brings together nearly the entire Fletcher community of students, faculty, and staff. As usual, there were a few modifications befitting of our current moment (a lunch reception in an outdoor tent instead of the Hall of Flags, and livestreaming the proceedings in a nearby classroom for those wishing to practice social distance), but overall it felt very much like the Convocation to which we’re accustomed.
This year’s keynote was delivered by alumnus Edward Felsenthal (F91), the Editor in Chief and Chief Executive Officer of TIME, which remains the largest U.S. print title in news with 2 million subscribers. In addition, Professor Katrina Burgess was presented with the Faculty Research Award, and 2nd-year MALD student Kyrre Berland provided remarks on behalf of the student body.
2021-2022 academic year, consider yourself convoked!
