Fletcherpreneurship

A common question we get from applicants — especially those interested in international entrepreneurship — is ‘Are there ways to explore my own venture while at Fletcher?’

The answer: a resounding ‘yes‘! There are so many great opportunities here at Fletcher and Tufts, and we’ve seen a lot of homegrown success stories (see MALD graduate Peter Sacco as a nice example). There’s a lot of programming to support ‘Fletcherpreneurship’, in addition to courses like ‘Starting New Ventures’. Some examples include the Tufts 100K Competition, the Derby Entrepreneurship Center at Tufts, and the Fletcher D-Prize for new social impact ventures.

For the latter, check out the new write-up on our newest D-Prize winner Raitagyana, which means “knowledge for farmers.” Raitagyana, led by current MIB students Sushant Swami and Nikita Vardiparti, aims to equip farmers in southwestern India with cost-effective agricultural inputs and specialized knowledge to improve their crop yields and enhance the quality of their produce Raitagyana received $15K in cash to distribute fertilizers, pesticides, and seeds along with training, to enable smallholder farmers to produce more crops in villages of Bidar district in the North Karnataka region of India.  Most of the world’s poorest people are smallholder farmers and the goal of this pilot is to increase crop yields and productivity, lifting rural farmers out of poverty.
