Empow Studios teaches kids 7-15 years old in STEM in classes after school and weekends, and in camps during the summer throughout the Greater Boston area. Our topics include coding, robotics, video game design, film & animation, digital design, and Minecraft.

STEM Instructors teach one tech class of typically 10 students per week and ensure that students have a great time learning and building cool stuff.

$17-$30 per hour. This is a part-time role during the school year and full-time during the summer.

Substitute Teacher positions for the 2022-2023 school year at all levels (K- grade 12).  All Substitute Teacher positions are on an “as needed” basis.  Responsible for in-person instruction of students during teacher absences, dependent on needs, while supporting students in meeting their academic goals.  Competent proficiency to instruct students, preferred.  Undergraduate degree, preferred.

English Language Learner Substitute Teacher Needed for Fessenden School

Position Summary

The Fessenden School’s Upper School seeks an English Language Learner (ELL) Substitute Teacher for students who typically have intermediate proficiency in English for Grades 5-9. The ELL Substitute Teacher is responsible for teaching 3 classes of 8-10 boys in English, history and language, being a member of one of the Upper School grade teams, and teaching small group ELL tutorials as assigned.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Teach and stay current with curriculum and 21st century learning
  • Incorporate project based learning, educational technology, differentiated learning and cultural competency in lessons
  • Collaborate and facilitate character education and service learning programs with Upper School Head 
  • Exemplify the School’s mission and community principles, including honesty, respect and compassion 
  • Participate in and help facilitate all division and grade level activities and meetings
  • Coach a sport and/ or supervise sports study hall as assigned
  • Collaborate with colleagues within grade level, division, department and student support services, including the Learning Resources Department
  • Maintain all documentation connected with the curriculum and students
  • Attend faculty meetings; typically on Mondays from 4:30pm to 5:45pm
  • Attend professional development meetings; three 8:30am to 4:00pm and three 3:00pm to 5:00pm
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance
  • Maintain current CPR/AED & first aid certification and child abuse prevention training
  • Other duties as assigned

Schedule

  • Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related subject
  • One or two years of experience working with English Language Learners
  • Ability to develop and provide differentiated instruction to meet learning needs of a range of students
  • Enthusiasm and communication skills to engage boys and build meaningful relationships
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control a classroom
  • Ability to perform critical thinking, organization, prioritization and problem solving with minimal supervision
  • Ability to serve in a diverse community of colleagues, students and parents
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, justice, diversity and equity
  • A commitment to boys and boys’ education

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in education or related subject
