Tufts 100K New Ventures Competition – Fletcher cleans up!

Not too long ago I congratulated current Fletcher student Farah Momen on receiving this year’s D-Prize for The Now Exchange (TNE), an enterprise providing health access and agency to Bangladeshi women in that country’s garment industry. We recently learned that Farah and her business partner Giulia Bova are continuing an awards run to rival Rami Malek and Bohemian Rhapsody, having also just placed first in the Social Impact Track of the Tufts $100K New Ventures Competition!

The good news continues: Fletcher students have in fact swept the awards in the Social Impact track, with second place going to current MIB students Mohammad Uzair Akram and Aesclinn Donohue for their work on Kisaan, a flexible microfinance product for small-holder Pakistani farmers. Third place goes to SustAg4all, a sustainable agriculture platform focusing on the Colombian avocado market, conceived by a team featuring current MA student Luis Villegas and Fletcher Professor Rockford Weitz. Each of these winners receive funding to pilot their ventures over the summer.

Needless to say, the Fletcher community is beaming with pride at the collective success of our social entrepreneurs, and we’ll be looking forward to hearing more about their future successes. Congratulations to all New Ventures Competition winners!
