Final reminder: April 1 application deadline
It’s surely redundant to issue one last application deadline reminder at this point, readers, am I right?

Read MoreThis is a frenzied time of year for admitted candidates. The process of researching and getting to know grad programs has gone into overdrive, and for most there’s a lot of financial planning work going on, too. I recently discussed some basics on financial planning in this space, emphasizing the importance of a “portfolio” strategy of meeting the costs of attending grad school. Fletcher scholarships, typically a significant part of that portfolio, merit a bit further discussion.
Read MoreToday I’ll highlight a nice feature on Professor Abigail Linnington in Tufts Now.
Read MoreWith the release of the bulk of admissions decisions for fall 2021, much of our attention is now focused on working with admitted students as they make enrollment decisions. It’s worth taking a moment, then, to highlight that it’s still possible to submit your application! The final April 1 application deadline is approaching, and if you’re aiming for that date your application should be rounding into form by now.
Read MoreReaders of current literature don’t need to know much about Fletcher to have heard of Elliot Ackerman and Admiral James Stavridis. Ackerman, a National Book Award finalist and author of five books, and Stavridis, with nine non-fiction titles to his credit, are both established voices in contemporary letters. Each is, of course, also a well-known member of the Tufts and Fletcher community.
Read MoreReaders, it’s that time of year when we’re obliged to have a conversation about a distasteful but crucial topic: financial planning. I know, I know, it’s like taxes. No one wants to do it, and it feels like there’s enough time that it can always be put off just a bit longer. March has a way of quickly becoming April, though, and waiting until you’re forced to think concretely about it will constrain your options and increase the pressure under which you find yourself. So let’s do this thing!
Read MoreI was recently looking back through this blog’s archives, and couldn’t help but notice that it was one year ago this week that I was letting readers know of Fletcher’s forced shift to a remote format and covering some of the last in-person gatherings in our community.
Read MoreFletcher students know Professor Dyan Mazurana well. She co-advises the Gender and Intersectional Analysis Field of Study (one of the only areas of concentration of its kind among APSIA schools), and I can tell readers from personal experience that her course Gender, Culture and Conflict in Complex Humanitarian Emergencies is not to be missed.
Read MoreIt’s decision time, readers! It’s a momentous point in the year for all of our applicants as well as us in the Office of Admissions. There’s always a sense of accomplishment, and a somewhat exhausted exhalation, at the release of decisions on our end. Also an understanding that a new phase of even more important work is just beginning as we help our newly-admitted students determine whether Fletcher is the right fit for them. More than all of that, though, we feel a great sense of gratitude to all of our applicants for the time and effort you’ve expended to complete and submit your applications to us.
Read MoreSharp-eyed readers may have caught the odd reference in recent weeks to updated Fields of Study in the Fletcher curriculum. If you’re relatively new to the ins and outs of Fletcher you might not notice anything different at all. Those who have been considering Fletcher for a bit longer, though, will see that the list of Fields of Study has been refreshed and streamlined.
