Map Your Future – June application deadline

June 10Regular blog readers may be surprised to see a deadline-related post at this point in the year. It’s approaching mid-May, after all, the time of year in which your focus understandably may be more on the dubious playoff prospects of the Celtics or the surprising start of the spunky Red Sox. For current college seniors, though, the June 10 Map Your Future (MYF) application deadline is one to bear in mind.

A refresher for those just getting started learning about Fletcher: Map Your Future is a unique application pathway to the MALD, MIB, and MGA degree programs. Open to those within six months of graduation, it allows students to apply for a deferred spot in a future class after gaining two to three years’ professional experience. There’s a strong preference for prior professional experience in all Fletcher degree programs, and MYF allows applicants to start making their grad school plans as they begin their working lives. MYF applications are reviewed as a distinct cohort, so these candidates are “competing” only against their direct peers in the admissions process. Candidates admitted via MYF who apply for scholarship aid are also guaranteed a minimum $10,000 award upon matriculation, which we hope provides a helpful head start in broader financial planning.

It’s a pretty great program. I’ve observed over the years that the students who arrive at Fletcher via MYF are consistent standouts, both academically and professionally. Having spent several years building professional experience with the security of a guaranteed spot in grad school down the road, these students arrive at Fletcher confident in their professional goals and what they want to get out of their grad school experience. One of the great pleasures of admissions work is watching people we’ve known as applicants thrive as students. We work with MYF candidates longer than the typical student, and it’s an added delight to see these folks crushing it once they arrive in the Hall of Flags.

So, to the college senior subset of our blog-reading population, it’s not to late to start mapping your future!
