iv. Searching Using Node Label or Metadata

VUE has the ability to search remote resources (repositories) for relevant data and then populate the map with nodes, or automatically add relevant node tags from remote resources. Optionally, based on a node’s data, VUE can also create a semantic map.

To perform a resource search that adds nodes to your map:

  1. Select the node. Sizing handles appear around the node.
  2. In the Content: Resources window, check the resource(s) you wish to search.
  3. Right-click the node and select Analyze Node > Perform Map Based Search. The map is populated with 5 search results linked to the original search node.

You can also perform the same search through the Content: Resources window by following steps 1 and 2 above, and then selecting the Map-based search checkbox and clicking Search.

To perform a search that automatically adds tag metadata to a node:

  1. Right-click the node and select Analyze Node > Auto Tag Node. Keywords or tags are added to the node metadata.

You can also perform the same auto tagging through the Info: Node window by selecting the node and then clicking the Auto Tag Node button.

If the node does not contain enough data to be analyzed, an error message will display.

The Auto Tag feature only looks at node information, not attached resources such as embedded web links.

VUE uses the International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC) metadata standard.

VUE can perform a map-based semantic analysis that automatically adds nodes to the map, rather than searching resources or listing keywords.

To perform a map-based semantic analysis:

  1. Make sure that the node has an attached resource, such as a web link.
  2. Right-click the node and select Analyze Node > semantic map. The semantic map is created.
  • Green nodes are entities
  • If there is more than 1 entity in a category, then a category node (blue) is created
  • The font size is scaled by the number of entities in the article
  • The darkness of the llink indicates the perceived relevance of the entity to the resource
