a. Importing a dataset or a RSS feed

Importing a dataset:

  1. Select Windows > Datasets. The Content: Datasets window opens.
  2. On the Datasets toolbar, click the Add Dataset tool. The Add Dataset window opens.
  3. Click the Browse tool. The Select Starting Path window opens.
  4. Navigate to the file to be imported and click Open. The Add Dataset window reappears.
    CSV files work well.
    Multiple maps can be associated with one dataset.
  5. Fill in the Display Name field and click Continue. The data is imported into VUE.
  6. Records can now be dragged onto the map.

Using datasets, a good way to begin is to ask, “What question would you like to have answered?”

Importing an XML feed:

  1. Select Windows > Datasets. The Content: Datasets window opens.
  2. On the Datasets toolbar, click the Add Dataset tool. The Add Dataset window opens.
  3. Paste a URL in the Browse text field and name your feed.
  4. Click “Continue”
  5. Records can now be dragged onto the map.

Refreshing a dataset

Because data sets may change often and require updating, it is essential to manage these changes without destroying a map’s existing spatial arrangement by either overwriting or duplicating nodes and links.
