As promised, I’m turning things over to my Admissions colleagues for their advice to incoming students. Take it away, Rita!
Read MoreIt’s been a while since I’ve deputized my Admissions colleagues to assemble in the blogatorium, and this is a natural time of year to turn to my co-conspirators for some words of wisdom. While much of our attention is now pivoting toward assembling the next Fletcher class (for 2022 matriculation, crazy as that sounds), there’s still quite a lot of work we’re doing with incoming students.
Read MoreWith the release of the bulk of admissions decisions for fall 2021, much of our attention is now focused on working with admitted students as they make enrollment decisions. It’s worth taking a moment, then, to highlight that it’s still possible to submit your application! The final April 1 application deadline is approaching, and if you’re aiming for that date your application should be rounding into form by now.
Read MoreReaders, it’s that time of year when we’re obliged to have a conversation about a distasteful but crucial topic: financial planning. I know, I know, it’s like taxes. No one wants to do it, and it feels like there’s enough time that it can always be put off just a bit longer. March has a way of quickly becoming April, though, and waiting until you’re forced to think concretely about it will constrain your options and increase the pressure under which you find yourself. So let’s do this thing!
Read MoreIt’s decision time, readers! It’s a momentous point in the year for all of our applicants as well as us in the Office of Admissions. There’s always a sense of accomplishment, and a somewhat exhausted exhalation, at the release of decisions on our end. Also an understanding that a new phase of even more important work is just beginning as we help our newly-admitted students determine whether Fletcher is the right fit for them. More than all of that, though, we feel a great sense of gratitude to all of our applicants for the time and effort you’ve expended to complete and submit your applications to us.
Read MoreA few weeks after the big January application deadline, our processing factory is at full steam and we’re happily reading through all of your applications.
Read MoreThose of you who submitted your applications by the Early Notification deadline should by now have received your admissions decision (and if not, check your application status page!). While I think our Early Notification process is pretty straightforward, I always like to provide a bit of context for these candidates to make sure everyone is on the same page.
Read MoreReaders, there is one month remaining until the January 10 application deadline! I always like to jump in with a one-month-left reminder as it feels like a useful amount of time. If you’re reading this and just now considering applying for fall 2021 enrollment, you’ve still got plenty of time to put together your best possible application, but now would be the moment to get started.
Read MoreOne common question we’ve heard in recent months concerns how the Admissions Committee will evaluate applications that show evidence of significant pandemic-related disruptions. None of us have avoided the upheaval of the past year, and it’s understandable that applicants might wonder if we’ll be able to evaluate properly their readiness for grad school given how weird academic and professional life has been in this era. The quick answer, with a tip of the cap to Douglas Adams, is a simple “don’t panic.”
Read MoreOur colleague Lucia, Associate Director of the LLM program, has read a lot of applications to Fletcher over the years. As we approach the heart of application season, she was kind enough to share her advice on putting together your best possible application.
