COVID-19 updates for admitted students

Blog readers may already know that Tufts and Fletcher have announced an action plan in response to the evolving COVID-19 situation. Among the most prominent steps of this plan are the decisions to conduct all classes virtually for the remainder of the academic year, and to cancel all in-person events and activities both on- and off-campus. For our office and our admitted students, this unfortunately means the cancellation of our scheduled Open House events on April 5 and 6, as well as the suspension of our regular campus-based offerings such as class visits and coffee with current students.

Some decision-related fine print

One of the two or three most exciting points of the admissions year is upon us, readers. The release of admissions decisions, scheduled for early next week, is perhaps rivaled only by the first day of Orientation and Open House as a tentpole admissions event. Visit Day, impeded by neither snow nor rain

Is “goopy” an acceptable meteorological term? Even here in New England, where we’ve no shortage of creative terminology for various types of weather (we all know to fear the dreaded forecast of a “wintery mix”), today seems to beg for its own descriptor. All of our team fortunately made it back fine over the weekend from our various Thanksgiving travels, only to be greeted by a big, gross snowstorm that started Sunday afternoon, and continues as I write this. Of course it can’t just be a bunch of snow, though, which is an inconvenience, but which the region is collectively pretty good at handling. It started as snow, changed to freezing rain at some point early this morning, is currently a cold sleet, and is predicted to return to snow at some point today, lasting until at least tomorrow morning. Those prospective students who brave the forecast to join us for our final Visit Day of the season are a hearty bunch indeed. Do your worst, weather – you can’t derail us!

Admissions Visit Day

Today is the first of three “Visit Days” we’ll hold for prospective students this fall at Fletcher (November 4 and December 2 are the others, for those of you who might be able to join us). Sort of mini-Open Houses, or maxi-information sessions, Visit Days are designed to give prospective students a good look at a number of different sides of Fletcher, and usually are a lot of fun.
