About Fletcher

Summertime beautification

In some ways, summer can feel like a long season at Fletcher. I’ll admit that the hush that descends after the buzz of graduation is a welcome change for a few weeks, but pretty soon we get to missing our students. After a while, the quiet months can feel, well, quiet, and we start looking forward to the energy that comes with hundreds of students returning to campus. For our facilities folks, though, I imagine the season can feel barely long enough to get anything done.

First-year Alumni: Chris dives into international market research

It was a pleasant surprise to have our old friend Chris stop by the Admissions office just before graduation. Chris was a member of our Admissions Committee for two years during his time at Fletcher, and it was great to hear what he’s been up to over the past year (and to learn that we’ve added a great alumnus in the Chicago area). I naturally pounced on the opportunity to solicit an alumni blog post.

Summer outreach

I get asked a lot if summertime in admissions is a slow season, with most students and faculty spending the summer months away from Fletcher. It’s certainly much quieter around the place, but overall it’s just as busy for us as the academic year, just differently busy. We’ve always done the odd recruitment event in the summer, but in recent years it’s really picked up, and I can usually count on attending at least three or four significant events per summer.

Alumni update: Sofija in UN negotiations

I had the good fortune to hear recently from Sofija Korac (F10), an alumna doing exciting work as a Senior Human Rights Advisor at the United States Mission to the UN in New York City. UN watchers may have noted the recent passage of the UN Security Council Resolution on Persons with Disabilities in Armed Conflict. What particularly interests us here, though, is Sofija’s role as the lead US negotiator for the resolution, and the associated remarks she wrote that were delivered by Ambassador Cherith Norman Chalet at the adoption of the measure.

Five-Year Update: Daniel Orth

It’s time for a five-year update from the class of 2014. It was such a pleasant surprise to bump into Daniel Orth at commencement last month, as he’s a longtime friend of our office. Daniel worked with us as a graduate assistant during his time at Fletcher, and could be relied upon to represent Fletcher in all manner of admissions events throughout the academic year. We’ve gotten the odd update from him since his post-graduation relocation to San Diego, but it’s still hard to believe five years have gone by since his time at Fletcher. I, of course, immediately took advantage of the chance meeting to solicit an alumni blog post from him. He naturally obliged me, since he’s one of the most good-natured people to pass through a community that’s full of nice folks.
